Christmas Pudding Race Result

Although Sunday morning started with little or no wind, by 11:30 it picked up to approximately 6/7 mph.  The light winds, blue sky and sunshine made for some enjoyable, yet challenging sailing.

Winners were:
1st Tom Abbott (Streaker)
2nd Dan Langdon (Blaze)
3rd Mike Hayes and Steve Chidgey (RS400)

Big thank you to all those who made the day a big success and a fitting end to the sailing season, including the galley staff who supplied the mince pies and mulled wine.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members.

Bart’s Bash

Bart’s Bash Race results:

2nd Tom Abbot
Joint 3rd Ed Oliver and Dan Langdon

Total of £128.36 collected

We are raising money for the Andrew Simpson Foundation and would welcome as many Durleigh Salors as possible to take part, either by taking part in the racing or coming along as a spectator and purchasing a delicious cream tea, donated by members.  Free cream tea for all racers. £5 entry fee. All money will go to the foundation.

The racing will be a fun event to encourage non-racers and handicap allowances will be made for new racers and fancy dress:
40 additional points for new racers.
30 additional points to each of the top 3 best dressed boats and crew.
15 additional points for all other dressed boats and/or crew.

To avoid collisions, all normal sailing rules apply but there will be no shouting “starboard” or “water”.  Anyone caught shouting these words will have to do a 360 penalty.  For ‘starboard’ replace it with “hello, how are you”, for ‘water’ or ‘water at the mark’, replace it with “nice weather for sailing”.  All others, just be polite.

Please make the effort and come along.  It should be a fun day.

Powerboat Courses

SYCSA are running an RYA Safetyboat course (2 days course) on Saturdays, 13th & 20th February 2016.

This course will follow the RYA Safetyboat scheme, leading to the Safetyboat certificate. It is designed as a fleet rescue qualification, so you are able to provide safety or support cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.
Participants must be 16yr or over, and have one seasons driving experience. A Safety Boat Handbook will be supplied in advance; it is expected that students will study the handbook prior to starting the course
The cost is £210.00, but this is reduced to £165.00 for Durleigh members.

Whilst the RYA feel that the Safety Boat Certificate is the ideal level of training, we appreciate that not all aspects of this course are applicable to our sailing at Durleigh.

With this in mind SYCSA can offer an alternative of a one day Basic Rescue Skills course, running on Saturday 5th March

This course will follow the parts of the Safety Boat course relevant to small clubs, like Durleigh Sailing Club, and aims to provide the skills and knowledge to help club powerboat drivers in basis rescue techniques for the types of craft that sail at Durleigh.

Please note, this is an independent training course, and does not have RYA certification, although in-house certification will be given. If RYA certification is required, the you should take the RYA Safety Boat Course
Participants must be 16yr or over, and ideally have one seasons driving experience.
The cost is £75.00 for Durleigh members.
Safety boat handbooks are not included in the course fee, but can be purchased from SYCSA for £9.50 (£10.99 from the RYA)
