Sailwave results for Durleigh S.C

It was a cold day with a moderate variable NW wind blowing.

The numbers racing were bolstered by 3 brave youngsters in their Topper dinghies, unfortunately 2 had to retire due to capsizing and getting very cold, hope this does not put them off competing in the future.

Well done to young Ed in his Topper, finishing and getting 3rd place in the first race.

Dan, Malc and Tom vying for position, guess what happened next?

Today’s sailing

The start of the Winter series gave us very windy conditions

Unfortunately it was too much for our younger sailors, we hope this has not deterred them and hope to see them next Sunday.

For those that did take to the water it was a race between RS400s and Comet trios.

With plenty of capsizes Malcom Bale’s decision to put in a reef in the mainsail of his trio  paid off coming 1st in the second race.

Winter Race series

The winter series of races starts this Sunday 5th November for 6 Sunday’s.
There will be 2 races, 11am start for 1st race and the second race possibly back to back.
We have some new young members racing this series, they know the basic rules of racing but have not raced before, experienced racers please give them some leeway, we don’t want to put them off.

Winter Series

The Winter Series starts on Sunday 5 November and concludes with the Christmas Pudding Race on the 10 December.  Recreational sailors are welcome also.

Each sailor, racer and recreational, are required to do at lest one duty during the series.  Please log into Dutyman, select ‘Volunteer for a Duty’ on the Roster page and click on the swap symbol to the right of the duty you would like to do.  Once you have volunteered, you are automatically entitled to sail the series.

Bart’s Bash

14 boats took part in Bart’s Bash.  The variable northerly winds were quite challenging but most stuck it out for 3 races.  The overall winners were Martin and Lynn Harland, with Scott Bonner and Dan Wright second and Mike Hayes and Steve Chidgey third.  The majority of entrants wore fancy dress, the most outrageous of which was Sue Weston and Steve Briggs (Dirty Habits).

Big thanks to all those who made it happen.

Redwing Open – Instow

Durleigh SC member, Terry Hayman recently entered his Redwing in his first Open at Instow.  Although admitting he finished towards the end of the fleet, it was enjoyable and very good experience.  Well done, Terry.

Today’s sailing

A quiet day at Durleigh today in more ways than one. Just 4 boats on the water and very little wind.

1st race was just one lap then the wind picked up a bit.

2nd race looked more promising, Lynn & Martin managed to get ahead using their kite but the wind dropped again and Tom managed to pass them.

Thanks to Richard Maltby for the photos
